Japanese craft, carried to the world

Struck and honed, again and again — a single blade crosses borders.
Sakai bladesmithing meets indigo dyeing in a knife unlike any other.

FORGED IN TRADITION. HONED FOR THE WORLD.

PHILOSOPHY

Fire, steel, and the resonance of indigo
Craft and tradition, handed down

In the single edge struck by the smith lives the deep indigo set by the dyer. The skill and spirit passed down through generations of Japanese artisans carry an aesthetic that admits no compromise. Born of a deep respect for history, and of crossing techniques and regions that had never met, the Indigo Bocho is more than a tool — it is an entirely new art piece carrying the passion of Japanese making to the world.

PRODUCT

Indigo Bocho

Kuro-uchi Tsuchime Santoku

藍包丁 黒打槌目三徳

A blade that brings kuro-uchi — a finish once possible only in rust-prone carbon steel — to rust-resistant stainless. The smith's hammer leaves its tsuchime across the face, and the hiba handle is steeped in indigo: the cut of a Japanese knife, with the ease of care a home kitchen needs.

Indigo dyeing, long said to carry antibacterial and deodorizing properties, has supported daily life in Japan for centuries. Sakai bladesmithing from Osaka meets the indigo tradition rooted in Tokushima — function and presence, held together.

CRAFT

Sakai forging × Tokushima indigo

Two regions, held in a single knife.

  • A smith striking a blade before the fire of the forge

Six centuries of blades, in Osaka

The blade is forged by long-established smiths who have supplied professional cooks and culinary schools. Kuro-uchi, once possible only in rust-prone carbon steel, is achieved here in rust-resistant stainless.

  • A dyer working by hand in an indigo vat

    Dyeing wood, not cloth

The handle is dyed in indigo, long said to carry antibacterial and deodorizing properties, then finished with a water-resistant coating compliant with Japan's Food Sanitation Act — a tool that lives around water has to hold up.
