How we ship

We ship from Japan by Japan Post EMS (Express Mail Service). We will email you a tracking number.

Time to ship

Every piece is made by hand. We finish your order after you place it.

Items marked ready to ship: within 2 business days.

All other items: 7–10 days.

Items marked sold out take two months or more to restock. Please email us if you would like us to hold a piece.

Steel, wood, and monthly production are limited, so shipping may take longer than the times above.

If we expect to exceed the stated period by a wide margin, we will email you. You may wait, or cancel for a full refund.

Delivery time after dispatch

To Canada, delivery is usually about 6 days after dispatch (Japan Post delivery-time table). We cannot yet give a typical delivery time for the United States.

Times vary with customs clearance. We do not guarantee a delivery date.

Duties and import taxes

Duties and import taxes are not included in the product price. How and when you pay depends on the destination country.

United States — you pay duties after you order

In August 2025 the United States ended de minimis duty-free treatment for low-value imports. Duties apply to every shipment, regardless of value.

Goods we send to the United States by post are delivered duty paid (DDP). We pay the duties before dispatch. You do not pay the carrier on delivery.

1. You pay for the goods and shipping at checkout.

2. We confirm the duty amount and email you a payment link.

3. We ship after we confirm payment of the duties.

US duty on kitchen knives is currently about 31% of the product price (a general rate of 6.1% plus an additional 25% on derivative steel articles). We will give you the exact amount with the payment link.

If we do not receive payment within 7 days of that email, we will cancel the order and refund the goods and shipping in full. You may also cancel for a full refund before you pay the duties, after seeing the amount.

Canada — you pay on delivery

Japanese kitchen knives are duty-free under the CPTPP. We declare Japan as the country of origin. A certificate of origin is required; without it, ordinary duty rates apply.

Duty is 0%, but GST/HST still applies. The exemption threshold is CAD 20, so almost every order is taxable. Canada Post also charges a CAD 9.95 handling fee on dutiable packets.

Lost or undelivered shipments

If a shipment has not been confirmed as delivered more than 30 days after dispatch, please email shop@editjapan.com. We will ask Japan Post to investigate. An investigation can take several weeks. We cannot reship or refund until the result is known.

Stock and pricing errors

If we find after an order that an item is out of stock or was shown at the wrong price, we may cancel the order and refund you in full.

Where we ship

We currently ship to the United States and Canada only.
