Refund policy

When we accept returns

We will replace or refund an order only if:

the item arrived damaged or defective; or

the item you received is not the item you ordered.

We do not accept returns for change of mind, including cases where the item is not what you expected or does not suit you after use.

How to contact us

Please email shop@editjapan.com within 10 business days of delivery, and include photographs of the issue.

Returns

If the issue is our error, we will cover the return shipping cost. We will tell you whether a return is needed when you contact us.

We do not send a prepaid return shipping label. We will send packing and shipping instructions only.

If we ask you to return the item, please mark the customs form as "Returned Goods". If this is missing, import duty may be charged in Japan.

Cancelling an order

You may cancel an order within 24 hours of placing it. Engraved items cannot be cancelled once work has begun.

Refunds

After the item arrives with us and we have inspected it, we will refund the original payment method within 10 business days.

Because of exchange-rate movement, the amount refunded may differ from the amount you were charged.

If a shipment cannot be delivered

If a shipment is returned to us because of an incomplete address, refusal of delivery, or expiry of the holding period, we will refund the item price minus outbound and return shipping, any duties already paid, and related fees. If those amounts exceed the item price, there is no refund.

Natural variation

Indigo dye and wood grain differ from piece to piece.

Because we use natural wood, knots and slight indentations may be present.

Carbon-steel knives (kurouchi, white steel, and blue steel) will rust if left wet. Wash and dry them immediately after use. Do not use a dishwasher.

Rust from use, chips from use, and colour change over time are not defects.

These are characteristics of handmade products and are not grounds for a return.
