Name Engraving

You can have text — a name, or a short message — engraved on the blade.

Any Indigo Bocho knife currently on sale can be engraved. (We do not engrave other makers' knives.)

As a gift for someone who matters, or as something of your own: it is what turns a knife into that particular knife.

Types of engraving

1. Chisel engraving

A knife maker cuts each character by hand with a chisel.

Curved strokes cannot be cut this way, so chisel engraving is available in kanji only — up to six characters, written vertically.

2. Laser printing

A laser burns the characters into the blade.

This handles kanji, hiragana, katakana, Latin letters and numbers — up to sixteen characters, set in Arial, written horizontally.

How to order

1. Choose chisel engraving or laser printing when you place your order.

2. Write the text you would like engraved in the order notes at checkout.

A few things to know:

The engraving sits above the logo on the front of the blade.

We engrave exactly the text you give us, so please check capitalization and spacing before you submit it.

If you are ordering several items and want only one of them engraved, please tell us which one.

The Flash Indigo Tenmoku series cannot be engraved — those blades already carry the smith's own signature.
