【Indigo Bocho】 Kuro-uchi Stainless Hammered Petty Knife

  • Rust-resistant stainless steel × Kuro-uchi × Hammered finish = Authentic knife for daily use

  • Compact and easy to handle, ideal for fruits

This knife features a traditional Kuro-uchi finish combined with a unique hammered pattern created by artisans, giving it an unparalleled presence. Kuro-uchi is a traditional manufacturing method that originated in the Edo period, where the surface of the blade is intentionally left unpolished, retaining a black oxide film. Previously, Kuro-uchi knives were made from steel, which easily formed an oxide film. While they had a sharp edge, they were also prone to rust. This time, we succeeded in creating a Kuro-uchi finish with rust-resistant stainless steel. Thanks to this technological innovation, this groundbreaking series combines the authentic sharpness of a Japanese knife with easy home maintenance.

A small knife named "Petty" (small).
Originally intended for cutting fruits and peeling vegetables, it is now often used as a small utility knife.
It can be used for fruits, as well as meat, fish, and vegetables.
Its compact size, light weight, and ease of use make it popular for outdoor activities where portability is key, and as a "first knife" for children. It's also perfect for those who find a Santoku knife a bit too large.

What is Indigo Bocho?>

Indigo dyeing, which has supported our lives with its antibacterial and deodorizing properties, has been incorporated into these "Indigo Bocho" knives, combining functionality with visual appeal. These products merge Sakai cutlery, a tradition of Osaka, with indigo dyeing, rooted in the history of Tokushima. This "artisan collaboration" between artisans from different regions and with different skills aims to enhance added value by combining the strengths of their respective techniques. Indigo Bocho is also a project that seeks to revitalize traditional Japanese techniques by bringing benefits to multiple production areas through a single product. Please enjoy this collaboration of artisan skills.
